Vent Your Anger

Home / Featured Writer / Vent Your Anger

Anger is something very common in humans. It’s part of our nature, something which comes naturally but is totally negative. We all need to control our anger. It’s destructive and brings out darker shades.

The opposite reaction to it is calm, peace, patience. Which does not comes naturally (of course… good things do not comes easy). A stable mind will always know how to control anger. Allah says multiple times in the Quran “be patient” “stay humble” and “show gratitude”. Every individual has different tactics for handling anger. Personally I shut my mouth when I am angry, because I know I would say the meanest of things and I would end up hurting the opposite person, resulting in me being guilty and of course embarrassed. I try to remain calm, quiet and keep myself deserted (that’s when I’m mood out)

There are many remedies from the Quran and sunnah to vent out anger. I have listed just a few.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If a man gets angry and says, ‘I seek refuge with Allaah,’ his anger will go away.” (Saheeh al-Jaami’ al-Sagheer, no. 695)

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If any of you becomes angry, let him keep silent.” (Reported by Imaam Ahmad, al-Musnad, 1/329; see also Saheeh al-Jaami’, 693, 4027)

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If any of you becomes angry and he is standing, let him sit down, so his anger will go away; if it does not go away, let him lie down.”

One of the hadith that describes the great reward for doing this is, “Whoever controls his anger at the time when he has the means to act upon it, Allah will fill his heart with contentment on the Day of Resurrection” (Reported by al-Tabaraanee). Keep reminding yourself about this reward and I am sure shaytaan can never over power you.

Know that resisting anger is one of the signs of righteousness (taqwaa)

Never ever let harsh words come out of your mouth because only you know u never meant it. And words once spoken can never be returned nor can you take it back. So that’s why wise men always said “think twice before you speak” reflect and ponder 🙂

Great reminder sis! I usually share my feelings with my husband as a source of venting so I do not say something in anger to someone else.
